Rick Santorum: “I do have concerns about women in front line combat. I think that could be a very compromising situation where people naturally may do things that may not be in the interest of the mission, because of other types of emotions that are involved - I think that’s probably not in the best interest of men, women or the mission.”
Santorum later clarified this statement by saying he meant “men’s emotional issues, not women,” meaning that he’s worried that men, “may be more concerned with protecting someone who may be in a vulnerable position, a woman in a vulnerable position.“
TRIGGER WARNING:
“[I] wouldn’t make exceptions [for abortion in the case of rape and incest]. What I would try to do is create a program that would enable women in those circumstances to have support and help them through whatever process they needed both in terms of counseling and in terms of if they wanted to give up the baby for adoption.”
-Newt Gingrich
“[A child conceived through rape is a] gift of human life. [Rape victims should] accept what God [has given them].”
-Rick Santorum
Rival presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s Iowa coalitions director, Jamie Johnson, sent out an email saying that children’s lives would be harmed if the nation had a female president. […]
“The question then comes, ‘Is it God’s highest desire, that is, his biblically expressed will, … to have a woman rule the institutions of the family, the church, and the state?’ ” Johnson’s email said.
